The Berry ... Algae and PB&J ... 10/23
#1
[font "Comic Sans MS"][#800000][size 4]Curtis (LuvThemCuts) and I made an early run to the Berry today. We were fishing Renegade by 7:30. By 11:00 we had boated about 30 slot cuts. Then the switch went off for us and we only caught another 5 or so fish the whole afternoon until we called it a day at 3:00.

The bite was good out east of the Renegade marina until the moss and algae got supper thick. In a previous post, I disagreed with someone about the algae slowing the bite. But now I kind of have to agree. At first the algae wasn't bad. But then all of a sudden it was THICK!

The water temps stayed around 53° to 55° all day.

I tried catching fish using hard plastic crank baits but never got a single bite with them. Everything came in on white tube jigs tipped with chub and slathered with Pro-Cure Anchovy fish attractant.

Curt brought a loaf of bread and some peanut butter and jelly to make himself some sandwiches. But he forgot to bring a knife to spread the peanut butter with. He didn't want to use his fingers with all the chub and Pro-Cure on them. He didn't want to use my fillet knife. He watched me eat a couple of my famous delicious Spam, cheese, and jalapeno sandwiches and he was getting kind of desperate for something to spread his peanut butter with. He broke down and used the package that one of my new Yo-Zuri lures came in. Apparently, it worked pretty good.

At least we got some good results from the lure package because I sure didn't get any results from the lure itself.

I still think that the really good fall fishing is still in the future. Maybe a couple more weeks … middle of November.
