At the Sportsman's Show in St. Paul this past weekend they had a Bass Professional giving a seminar and product demonstration in the traveling tank. He explained that the "bleeding hooks" color is something that he refers to as "gill flash". In other words, with fish, when they open their mouths to grab food, their gill flaps open and the other fish around see the "flash" of the red gills and head on over to see what's on the dinner menu. He swears by the red hooks just for that reason.
