you usually have to stock thousands of fry or fingerlings over a period of years to get a viable population established.
That didn't happen. So what did happen? How many of the recent catches have been in harbors? Right where the boat with a live well full of hammer handles would've been launched? I'm guessing that there hasn't been much reproduction, but rather a whole bunch of transplants of 14 to 18 inch pike.
So you move say 3 or 4 gravid females and a couple of males, they get a spawn off and you get instant pike !! It doesn't work that way, you usually have to stock thousands of fry or fingerlings over a period of years to get a viable population established.
How many thousands of fry would you get from say 4 gravid female pike? Thousands? Isn't that the same as planting thousands of fry or fingerlings?
