That's an interesting way to make a bait needle.
Over here on the East Coast, we wouldn't have a need for something like that in regards to cat fishing, but it's neat none the less.
We use live bait and/or fresh cut bait exclusively here for big Blue's and Flatheads. I have applied some of my saltwater tactics in the past in the form of trying bridled live baits and such, but what i've found is simply putting the hook directly into the fish is just as effective, and in the event you are stationary and casting, you are less likely to toss a bait off the hook.
