Never had a white bass from UL that tasted like detergent...sure it wasn't from your sink?
The WB I've eaten from there over the last few years taste as good as any other panfish from any other lake around here IMO.
UL looks a little funky, is an urban fishery, and there was a time when it was in pretty poor shape, mostly prior to the clean air and water act and modern regulations. Now, as noted by two other posters, the fish are fine, certainly no worse than anything you buy in the store or eat in a restaurant - and not as bad as some waters, say AF canyon/tibble fork for one. Not sure what your issue is jedidian...many waters in Utah kicking out fish much more polluted than UL.
