I know that it is difficult, but try not to let the crowds discourage you. The fish don't seem to mind all the activity, so just stay focused on the water you have in front of you and things open/close over the course of an outing.
Lot's of hole-crowds are in groups of three - guides with hackers for client's - so they're more less just whipping the water (not disturbing a lot of fish)... gotta wait 'em out if you want prime real estate.
I was on the LP near the dam on Good Friday... place was absolutely packed... had my best day of the year for both size and numbers.
