I do have to say, that I come up with a deadly combination this year. the combination of the owner hook and the teflon coated 20 pound stainless steel leader as you said, there were no escapees, only releasees. When them walleye hit, the stayed on the hook.
I out fished every one on the detroit river that day. I would say that this setup would go well with your favorite plastic, live or recently live bait. (crawler, leach or dead minnow)
I use this setup to troll around the bottom of the rivers and lakes.
