Not sure speed matters much trolling crankbaits if the water isn't too cold. Plus, you cover more water going faster. Another example is trolling for chinook in the ocean. Most guys try to go slow, as in less than 2MPH. However, I spoke with a commercial troller last year who trolls at 4 knots, ie, 4.6MPH. He talked about them "clattering up", or loading up his gear at that speed. I once caught a coho trolling tuna gear at 7MPH. Maybe next trip I'll try 2.7MPH, then 4.4MPH.
