Person Missing at Willard Bay
#89
I think they are a little over careful with this rating, we used to have a rule for waterskiing if air temp plus water temp was 100 or higher it was ok to ski. Now my disclaimer, I was younger, more fit and a little crazy, but we skied a lot in cold conditions and survived okay. Now we didn't stay in the water any longer than we had to, but after the initial shock it wasn't too bad. I think if any of us ever get into this situation we need to keep calm and realize we probably have longer than we think and use that time the best we can to get help or get out if we panic we won't have long.

Mostly we need to be careful and not do things that could get us in trouble. This whole post is making me reexamine things I do that push my luck. I'm getting older and still think I can do everything I used to do and I've got to change because one day I'm not going to get away with this kind of action. I think I'll start wearing my PFD rather than hanging it on my seat. Also need to be more careful hanging over the edge working on motors or down riggers. I see now the risk I have been taking and it's not worth it. I agree with you 100% on my chances of swimming to safety, I don't think I can do it. That lake is way too big. I'll be hoping one of you guys see me and pull me out. I guess if there is any good that can come from this Sad event, hopefully it will make the rest of us more safe and careful. Hey I appreciate your input and I hope neither of us need to ever test it out. Be safe. J
