I have an old police style auto I think it's a 680 S&W crome and black. But my baby is my S&W 686 357cal 6-shot Revolver.
Personally for home protection in handguns I would go revolver. Use hydro-shock or blazer rounds and it's point and shoot if necessary.
Auto's and semi-auto's are good to but remembr for home protection, middle of the night, window breaks or alarm goes off and your going for the auto.
Did you remember to put the magazine in? is the safety off or on? and of course have you chambered a round?
Alot of questions as someone is breaking in. My 357 is always loaded so no questions. Grab, depress trigger, bye bye bad guy[sly]
Rest of my guns are locked up and unloaded. I do alot of target shooting. Great stress relief[
]
I do not know what your background is with handguns but I would read up and maybe even take a class before buying one.
Lots of laws about ownership and use. And of course general safety and maintence. I know there's lot's of guys and gals on here that could help you too.
I would go to Tunersoutdoorsman or a gun dealer near you and ask there opinion on Smith and Wesson vs othe guns makers. There's only a few liek Colt and Ruger that have the rep they do.
