Jack, thank you for your report and for sharing your love of fishing with us. That was truly a beautiful fish and can see why you were so excited about it. I would be thrilled too!
As far as everyone else is concerned I want to give my 2 cents worth as well. Unless you are a Native American who is fishing in the same places with the same technique that your ancestors have used for thousands of years, we have all intruded on someone else's hotspots whether that be for good or bad. At some point in life whether in childhood or not we have all benefitted from someone else's 'secret tips' all flies and lures and baits started as a guess that someone took that worked out and so the shared it. I remember specifically one day when I was fishing at a reservoir with my grandfather, who had never fished before, we were getting skunked for the 3rd and final day of a long weekend and being 12 or 13 I was heartbroken that it had turned out so poorly. At about 11:30 two older gentlemen were walking by saw me and asked how I was doing. When they saw I was down and heard I hadn't gotten a bite they showed me exactly how to set up my rod and moved me down the bank to their spot. By 12:30 when my grandpa came to get me to come in I had caught 3 fish. I still don't know who those men were but I will never forget them and try to pass along tips to pass along the kindness they showed me those 15+years ago. By the same token I have had a couple honey holes that have been transformed into little more than muddy landfills from over sharing so it is important to judge how much to share, HOWEVER I don't think it is ANYONE's place to make that decision for others. If you see a problem with a post don't attack them on the open forum, but rather shoot them a PM and explain where you are coming from and ask that any sensitive info be removed. That makes posting a more rewarding, less chastising experience. And hopefully that will help more of the 'lurkers' muster up the courage to post and share their experiences because it really can be a blast.
Just remember we are all here because we love fishing. Merry Christmas everyone and may you all have safe successful trips this break!
