Will it work as an ice-fishing rod?

I have seen the uni line of rod conected to the reel products, open faced and if the rod snaps off the game is over,

I havent seen the uni rod and reel combo in the scoobie line yet. I have shakspears comercial catilog, I will have to look again to see if they have that modle still available.

when I was looking at them last year I saw I had to buy rods and reels seperatly to save 25 cents on the combos.
