That's a pretty high tax but petroleum is by far the highest subsidized commodity in the U.S. Makes the billions the Koch brothers get annually for ridiculous corn to ethanol subsidies look like pennies.
I wouldn't mind paying a bit higher in gas ultimately if we could cut out OPEC completely. As T. Boone Pickens recently said we are "paying both sides of the war by using OPEC crude" http://money.cnn.com/video/news/2014/12/...=obnetwork
