Usually this time of year when there's 23 inches of snow at trial you can drive within a couple miles of it. Everyone that fishes, snowmobiles and or cross country skies just go around the road closed signs below. Those signs just mean it may not be passable in a car ( although sometimes it is) all the way to Evanston. If you are snowmobiling you're not expected to park by those signs. Drive up until you hit consistent snow and park. I'll sometimes drive my Subaru on the snow for a few miles but I always have a shovel ready if needed. Especially on weekdays there's not always someone to give you a little push when needed. The Forest Rangers do patrol above the signs and are certainly not giving anyone grief for driving up there. Is pretty much the same thing in the late Spring when the road starts to open up.
