I can't explain how cold it was this morning. I'm a die hard ice fisherman and this rates as one of the coldest mornings I've spent on the ice. The truck thermo said -5 when we arrived. Couple that with a brisk 20 to 30 mph wind and it was insidious. So we went out at the hatchery and joined a couple other groups on four to five inches of great solid clear ice. Best first ice I've seen in years. Fishing was amazing, like usual, from nine to eleven. My bro, Southsforkly had the hot hole, and iced twenty fish in two hours. The biggest, a hybrid, went twenty five inches and just over five pounds. My dad and I never caught up. All together we ended up with thirty five fish, all released. We were holding out for that big brookie, but he never came. I'm guessing he's up at pintail. As always, be cautious on new ice. With the weather forcast, it should be eight to ten inches by next weekend. Good luck. Be safe.
