"So you're saying BFT doesn't make a difference in the traffic? Not at all?[
]"
[#0000FF]Over-simplifying one way is as bad as another. Of course our reports have helped send people to the current hot fisheries...HELPED. I am just saying that we don't need to take all the blame.
And as for inconsiderate and unsportsmanlike encounters...hope we aren't responsible for those. Some of the ones I have experienced seem to be from folks who are not likely to be sharp enough to use a computer. Those folks will always show up somewhere and will always leave lasting memories. I wonder if maybe they are paid to do that by some business or entity that specializes in re-stabilizing emotionally distraught anglers.
To make this a sign-up only site would knock the heck out of the traffic...and the popularity. The admins are not likely to do anything to put a hit on the hit count.
"Special spots" are a very subjective thing. Don't know why but some folks think that once they have fished a spot it is theirs and theirs alone. Nobody else has a right to fish there. And if somebody has the bad luck to be fishing there and the "owner" shows up there is ugliness. Even worse if someone on an open forum even casually mentions this spot. SACRILEGE. END OF THE WORLD. THE SKY IS FALLING.
We all agree that there really are some spots that should not be publicized. Even a minor increase in the minimal pressure can adversely affect them. So they should not receive more than a generalized locale mention...with the OP reserving the right to divulge more on a personal (PM, email, text, etc.) basis.
If I may be so bold as to suggest that you seem to be blaming BFT for the big increase in traffic on Strawberry this year...especially for kokanee. Do you have any idea how much Strawberry is publicized in the media...newpapers, TV, hot spot boards? I spent some time at a Sportsmans store in August and overheard at least two conversations between salesmen and customers...where there was a whole lot of non-discreet divulging of info. Of course that is how they sell tackle.
It is obvious that you favor Strawberry. But don't take ownership of it and put up blockades to all the other Utah anglers who want to get in on the action too. Strawberry is a big water...and a legacy to Utah anglers going back many generations. Even on its busiest day these days it is nothing compared to the floating armadas of old...and some stretches of shoreline shoulder to shoulder with cheese chuckers.
People stealing fly patterns? You have found the way to control that. Anything shared on the Internet is forever public domain. If ya wanna keep it private...don't post it.
Peace, love and Kumbaya
