Almost broke a record!
#34
DeadI I must hand it to you to have the guts to post this knowing what the conversation would be. I must stand with DeadI on this one though. I was with him the day he harvested this beast of a bass. For those of you who want to "bash" spearfishing go ahead. The state says that this is a legal way to harvest fish and as such he has done nothing wrong.

For those of you who feel that we harvest "all of the big fish" you should strap on a tank and see what is under you when you are fishing in your boat. You would be amazed at the number of bass in the locations that we were spearfishing in. I understand why some may opppose the idea of spearfishing, but not completely. A

A habitat can support only a certain number of healthy fish, deer, elk, rabbits, frogs, ants, or anything else. There is a point of diminishing returns. If you want bigger fish, in some areas (not all) you need to decrease the number of fish in the lake/pond that use the resources. There is a lake in the Uintah's that I have been at for 2 years in a row that could use more harvesting. Like it or not we are all on the same team and are attempting to do the same thing.

I don't know of a fisherman that would not like to catch/spear the fish that DeadI did. Think to yourself what would you do if you had caught that fish? Would you have liked to catch it? I really don't think that there is much of an argument. I really think that those bashing this post are really jealous of the fish.

For those of you who think that this is an easy sport come try it. If you don't like it then leave. Maintaining boyancy, not disturbing the silt on the bottom (which destroys all visibility), not breathing to heavily, and other challenges come into play while spearfishing.

One more thought. Exactly how many spearfisherman have you seen while fishing in your boat or from shore? We are few in numbers and to say that we are destroying your fisheries is obsurd.

Again DeadI one heck of a fish and if given the chance I'd shoot one just like it!
