Need advice on 63 desert elk

Smacked a calf over by mud lake. Weird deal. No elk to be found and this little fella might not have made it thru the winter. I bet mom was shot or hit by a car. All by herself and really small stupid skinny and moving at 330 pm with no elk around to be found. I watched it for about 2 hrs. Was not acting right. Smallest elk I have ever seen. But worth the tag to take care of business...thoughts?
