After getting skunked at Strawberry we ran by Jordanelle to see if the ice was safe enough to fish. When we arrived, we found ice as far out as you could see (which wasn't very far with the snow....maybe 200 yards?) I drilled a hole a few feet out and it was six inches thick. I walked out about 50 more yards and it was still about 4.5-5 inches thick. Problem......when I drilled that second hole it was only about three feet deep under the ice. My auger hit the dang asphalt from the old highway and banged up my blades really bad. I couldn't drill another hole no matter how hard I tried. I walked out a ways out onto the ice and it held. I heard some creaking, but I guess it still had to be at least 3 inches thick. It held me and I'm 230#. I would say that if the weather stays as cold as this that it sould be more than safe by next week.
