any place to fish around Burley, Idaho
#8
The southside canal is your best bet directly below the fence or just above it a couple weeks ago I caught some great fish. Use a slip bobber steelhead setup and worm threaded very active night crawlers kept on ice at just over 5 feet depth and you will do very well. Nearly all the 2012 carryover fish planted at 9"s weigh around 5 pounds. It is about a 20 mile drive from Burley. That is pretty good as they have only been in the dam for about 21 months. This spring they averaged around 4 pounds and represented about 75% of the catch for the first month and a half of fishing on Walcott. Fishing on the lake with the losses below the dam is very slow for trout if you are not an expert at the present. The fishing just below the 12 new spillways only one of which has been open has been terrific just 50 yards north of the southside canal. This area has been restricted during working hours during construction which has not stopped the adventerous. Don't know if many have recieved citations. The bishop's hole area a half mile below and to the north has been better than I have ever heard before and is a nice area. It was reported to be tremendous with the huge Nez Pierce treaty flows which lasted about four weeks starting 6 weeks ago when four of the gates were open. Hope the fall run Salmon are worth it as the resevoirs would have filled on the snake without those 3500 cfs flows going over Shoshone Falls for the month of June and July.
