Regarding a kicker motor - one thing to consider is having an extra motor if you are taking the boat to less traveled waters, or are on water that you want to make sure you have power. On my Lund 1700 Fisherman, I added a Merc 9.9 kicker mainly for reliability, secondly to use it for trolling. I have a troll plate on my 115 Merc, but find I can troll more effectively with the 9.9 using a Troll Master controller (a pretty cool add on). I prefer to not run the 115 at slow speeds for long periods.
