July Fishing - Picture heavy
#1
This last week I went exploring up in the top of the mountains to an area we used to fish a lot with our kids. It has been about 5 years since I was last in this area.

This is a fun road to drive and the views are breathtaking, but it is not a fun road to have a flat on. It is a well known law of nature that a flat tire will happen on the steepest and worst possible spot there is, and as you are changing the tire, the temperature will immediately rise from a pleasant 90 to a blistering 120 degrees.
But eventually I made it up over the top.
I fished big streams,

Medium sized streams,

Small Streams

And TINY streams.

And the fish came in all sizes and types too.
There were rainbows,

Brookies

And lots of cutthroats.

I think I lost more than I caught. One fish I had on was amazing. He had the escape artist routine down to a science. He took the fly, raced straight at me, then as he flashed by me, he headed for the heaviest water he could find downstream. I did the best I could to keep up with him on the snotty bowling balls this stream is lined with, but I really had no chance. He went right around a boulder, and with a quick jerk he straightened my hook. It was not a fine wire hook either. That was the most impressive self-release I've ever seen. What a blast!

My CC Special was what I used probably the most along with some Parachute Adams and Humpies.

I learned a lot of things too. I learned that it is a good idea to pick a path and an exit spot in the willow mazes before you are stuck. I also found that there are still moose in the willow mazes. [shocked]

I learned that I can still dance…..or make that I can slip and slide over the boulders like a cat…. Umm maybe more like a cat having a fit. I also learned that I can still swim, and that more than one bath a day can be refreshing! [blush]

All in all it was a beautiful adventure.

And I will be back to play with these guys again.
