[cool][size 1]You are trying to end up with a two-tube version of the four-tube system in the pic attached. Simple. Put a T connector on each end of the horizontal pipe, cut the vertical tubes so that the top parts are long enough to keep the reels out of the water, and make the lower tubes only as long as necessary to serve as stabilizers. As you can see in the picture attached, I cut away much of the lower tube, since it is not needed to support the rod handle.[/size]
[size 1]The other question...do you need to attach it at the bottom? NO. With the rods in the tubes, the weight is sufficient to keep the whole thing in place. But if you are going to be carring the system any distance, a bungee cord tie down will keep it from flapping in the breeze without rods in it.[/size]
[size 1]To repeat an oft repeated admonition...MEASURE TWICE AND CUT ONCE. You will not need a wide gap between the two rod tubes, to have plenty of room for the reels. But, if you make the rack too narrow, you will need longer lengths of nylon tie down cord to reach the D rings.[/size]
