[font "Calibri"]Prior to finding out he was a big mac fish killer I hired Capt Steve Davis to take me and a couple friends out (no fish were taking off the lake so no one flame me, I didn’t know his reputation back then). As mentioned before all we used that day was pure white lures. To say it worked would be an understatement. Over a 100 LBS of macs put in the boat in less than four hours. One little trick I learned that day was downsizing your rigger ball. The heaviest ball he was running was 6LBS and two riggers had 4 LBS balls. He explained that even though you don’t get as accurate of a reading on your depth due to swing back, the lighter balls don’t get hung up as often. If you’re not dragging your balls through the mud you’re not mac fishing. As an example I typically have a 120’ of cable out when fishing a 100’ of water. This type of fishing is not for the faint of heart and most would say a little crazy but it works. Just make sure your downrigger clutch isn’t locked all the way down.[cool][/font]
