Idaho Salmon

We caught fish friday and sat. morning above and below Clearcreek on the middlefork of the Clearwater just above Kooskia. I think we were pretty lucky as we only saw one other fish caught and the boats were doing very little. Mount Idaho on the South Fork was fishing real slow Sat and the rest of the river seemed an exercise in futility. Fishing was good in Slaughterhouse friday but heard it slowed considerably on the weekend. Heard a couple good reports around five mile as well. Fishing was good at mouth late Sat night and Sunday according to reports from friends there and heard the glory hole turned out some fish late Saturday. Talked to friends at the motel and glory hole and word was at that time 6:30 pm there had been no report of a fish being caught on either river. River had cleared to 5" visibilitity but only saw one boat fishing all the way down from whitebird. Know several people who limited late Sat and Sunday in the mouth of the little river. Fishing report today was very slow I have never seen the river more colored than it was Thurs night on the way to the Clearwater. I believe the silt totally shut down the fish May 18th 13 days back from first 1000 day over granite with only five days passage through the slide. Oxygen levils returned on Sat and the fish are moving again above the slide. The river was at 65000 for ten days. From pine creek to Riggins should be spotty but not great for the next ten days and after Thurs the fish should start to to pass through the slide and hit Riggins by the 12th with good fishing around hammer creek by the 10th. There could be a four day gap in lower and upper river if the slide truely stops most fish till the 40,000 cfs levil. Hydrologicical predictions being what they are today is what I am basing this on. Watching the upper river streamflows at the Yankee and Middle Fork it looks like a pretty rapid drop. I see the fishing being pretty much over by the 22nd according to my fifteen year diaries with these descending flows on the Salmon at Riggins..
