Idaho Salmon Fishing Etiquette

I agree with you that those people who aren't catching are often the ones who are frustrated/whining. At the same time I don't think anyone is comfortable rubbing elbows with one another, that's why I don't fish high profile areas, even if I do get there before anyone else, because regardless, people will move in, and as you mentioned with your bobber fisherman in a drift fishing hole, disrupt the peace. I would much rather fish an average hole with a few guys than fish the popular holes with 10 guys from every county. Then again, I'm much more concerned with enjoying myself than catching fish at all costs. Fishing is a stress reliever for me, no need to battle the swarms. That's also why I have a drift boat as well.[/quote]

I also agree that it's the choice of every angler to use whatever gear "tickles his fancy", whether it's drift gear, a fly rod, bobbers, plunking, or a float. But at Tate same time, if a guy waltzes onto a hole where everyone is drift fishing, and proceeds to throw a bobber, there's going to be contention, just as if the tables were reversed.

I'm not as familiar with all of the fishing holes on the salmon as other anglers but when I approach a hole and everyone is drift fishing, I drift fish, if they are bobber fishing I bobber fish. But if there is a hole that everyone considers a "bobber hole" and I don't know that and I get there first and start to drift fish then nobody should bawl me out for being confrontational when they show up later wanting to bobber fish.

I've never had a confrontation on the water, and I catch my share so I go home happy. I laugh when I'm sitting on a rock at 4:00 AM and someone comes down and sees me, cusses and leaves, or better yet leaves their net on a nearby rock and and returns 2 hours later to find someone fishing from that rock and starts to whine that they reserved that spot.
