Biigfish, those "undiscovered" holes are priceless, as I remember when the canyon below Shoup was exact that, "undiscovered" water. For years we had that stretch to ourselves, until the weekend of the Idaho Steelhead & Salmon Unlimited banquet back around 1990. Now you can barely find a place to park a camper.
Hooknhunter, I also feel your pain towards the, "trailer trash", and unfortunately,
there's not a day that I spend on the River, that my Glock 19 isn't "locked, loaded, and strapped to my side". There's only been one time in 10 years that I've had my hand on my Glock, and I thank God that I didn't have to pull that pistol. However, I would have regretted the old saying, "I'd rather have and not need, than need and not have..."
MMDon, I carry when I go to Walmart, or when taking my Bride to dinner and a movie....don't you? Why put yourself in a situation that you'd have later on whacked yourself in the head, and said, "why wasn't I carrying....???"
Metalhead, I agree with you that, by FAR, most of us are on the River to have a great time, and 99.9% of the time, that's the case. On the other hand, if my family, and I, are fishing on that dreadful .01% day, what would you rather do? Be prepared for the worst of situations, or regret that you were not prepared for that threat....?
This discussion is something that none of us want to experience, and if I have a choice, I will "run" to stay out of this situation.....but if needs be, I vow that I will be prepared to protect my family...!!!
