The one I didn't like was the one that clamps on a tube. The one I had wouldn't clamp on the frame tube worth a dang. If I remember right the tube on my frame was too large and wouldn't clamp on. The only thing I had against them was the clamp.
When I needed some for my larger boat I was skeptical about them but took the one I had and flush mounted it to the side boards. For that application they were perfect and I like them a bunch. They even work with my sturgeon rods. Here are how I have them mounted on the bigger boat.

My rod holders that mount on the foot pegs are slimmer and give you more room on the foot pegs than the scotty does.
I don't have anything against the scotty mounts in general. I just think that for the foot peg mount I like mine better since theirs didn't fit.
