Some of my most favorite rods are rods that I have added the metal strike indicators that extend out of the rod tip. I initially bought those just for perch fishing but have found that even a big trout will often just touch your jig lightly, so my main rods all have those indicators on them. So that would be my suggestion, give the indicators a try, they will supplement any rod you choose.
