I would support them raising the limit if it also restricted anglers to keeping only one fish over 20". That would allow for more of the smaller fish to be killed while protecting bigger fish, but still allow someone to keep a large fish that may be hooked through the throat and is just going to die. I typically only keep fish if I believe it will not survive.
The complaints about the ice fishing season are like anything else, you can't throw a blanket solution or explanation for what happens. Some guys are careful to release the fish quickly and without letting them flop all over the place and others don't care. Poor fish handling is a problem in the open water also with some people letting the fish flop around in the bottom of their boats.
I have been ice fishing at henry's since they began allowing it a few years ago and from my experience, the fishing is best during the first weeks of ice and quickly dies off. I can have 20 fish days the end of November but by the end of December it's more like 5-6 fish in a day. Also with each year I have seen fewer people giving it a try.
