I think that depends on what you fish for I have one and why it showed me the depth to fish at that was about it I took it almost every trip last year and only used it a handful of times . I fish for trout and with 10 rods out between me and the wife you can quickly find the depth the fish are feeding at and on what. Single most important is warm cloths and a fishing pole when i was a kid we used an ax to cut holes lol
