Last year about this time, I purchased a Strike Master MAG 2000 with 8.25" auger at Galyans. Using their membership club discount ( its free for the asking) and a $20 discount coupon sent to me via E-mail from their club, the total cost was under $200 with tax. I gave the Mag 2000 it to a family member for X-mas and it has worked great!!! A few weeks later, I decided I wanted one but the Mag 2000's where sold out, so I bought a Strike master Lazer XL with 8" lazer auger. The Lazer auger is twice as fast in cutting holes as the MAG 2000 chipper blade, But it cost over $120 more. For the money, The Mag 2000 is a great buy if you can find one. They sell really out fast!!! I did see a low $200 power auger at Sportsmans the other day, but as I recall it was only 1.5 HP with an 7" auger. In my opinion thats too small of engine and auger size. At higher altitudes, you'll need a minimum of 2HP for an 8" and 3HP for a 10" auger. I would try Galyans ( with free discount membership), Sportsmans, and Smith & Edwards in North Ogden.
