DWR proposed fishing license increase

I don't buy that.

Definitely aint gonna be the same. Probably not as extreme as I portrayed before but it will definitely effect fishing. When you first get to a fishing spot, usually it's smart to try two different baits. With 1 pole you wait and either get lucky or you spend the "hot fishing" hours using a bait that the fish just don't want. With a 2 pole you find out right away what they want. It increases your chances when it isn't a piece of cake spot to catch fish.

When big groups go out, they usually end up each catching a couple each, keep them, since they can use each persons license to keep 4. An extra pole each= more chances in the water. Plus, lets say powerbait is the killer bait of the day...you find that out and with 2 poles you pretty much have a pole in the water at all times. It also saves little time of having to put a hook on a pole if you couldn't get it out of the fish.

Then think about this...cheaper license for young 14-17 year olds= a better chance to get them hooked to fishing for life and they'll decide fishing is to awesome to not be willing to pay the extra 18$ that it'd cost once they hit 18. Plus they aren't going to lose any of use who already love fishing. All it's doing is promoting fishing and will make it be more popular=more fishing=overfished(unless more are stocked and even then I suspect size is gonna take a huge hit).

Also Lets just say I'm very greatful for a 2 pole cause just the other day I caught a monster catfish and it wasn't on the bait I would have tried right away if I only got to use 1 pole.

How much money do you spend to go to a movie? If you go fishing 1 day, then you've pretty much got your money's worth. Forget the number of days per year on average. All you have to do is go one or two times.

Your argument is saying why it makes sense to increase it but our pricing doesn't make a whole lot of sense for a lot of things and you don't need to debate with me about whether I'll still go fishing if it's more money or not. I won't ever stop! Most toys are 20$ or more but I can buy four meals for that. Lots of our pricing doesn't make sense but it is what it is, why should we change it?

Who? Who makes the money? You're combining multiple agencies. The UDWR sells you the license, which gives you the right to fish. If you go to a State Park, then you may have to pay them. Different agency. Gas money certainly doesn't go to the UDWR or the State. That's a private entity. I have that problem when I go to the movies as well -- I have to pay parking, I have to buy treats, etc. Should the UDWR be subsidizing your fishing trips by lowering your fishing license fee to help with your gas? No.

I don't know what movie theatre you go to that you have to pay for parking and also, treats at movie theatres are less mandatory for what's needed for a full day of fishing... but that's besides the point.

What are they going to do with the money that makes it worth it for everyone to pay more? Stock more fish? I thought every1 here a few days ago was having a debate about what size of fish to keep. Most said small cause it would increase the average size of the other fish. Well what are they gonna stock more of? Planter size fish or Large fish? Planters will make the overall size average decrease and Large fish will be more expensive to raise in the hatcheries.

I guess I understand your points about multiple agencies but just cause ithe dwr isn't making money doesn't justify the cost going up when many agencies and the economy benefit from fishing.

Would I stop fishing cause it went up $8? No but its pushing the limits. It's taking advantage of what they know they can do and get away with it
Like everything else, costs go up. This is life. Sure, it sucks. Is the DWR gouging us? I don't think so. I guess what it comes down to is priorities. Sometimes we have to give something up in order to continue doing something else. I gave up golf a couple years ago. For me, fishing is worth some extra cost. That might not be acceptable for everyone (higher fees) -- so a few may give up on fishing. i guess that could go back to your first issue; overcrowding.
But that's just it...it doesn't have to go up. I surely wouldn't be happy but rather than making a bill they should just increase the price of both a regular fishing license and 2 pole permit. I don't buy that the demand has gone up for most things kind of like you said how things have always ended up higher but we deal with it. When they make a bill/actually put up a debate about it, of course I'm going to be against it!
