1-Overfishing if that 2 pole permitt is included for that cheap.
I don't buy that.

3- For those who say fishing is like 9 cents per day...Yeah, most of us can't fish 7 days a week, let a lone for a significant amount of time...
How much money do you spend to go to a movie? If you go fishing 1 day, then you've pretty much got your money's worth. Forget the number of days per year on average. All you have to do is go one or two times.
...and almost everywhere has some kind of additional fee, whether it be a day use pass or several days pass on camping trips. Also to go anywhere decent requires lots of gas money and of course the food/water necessities that come with it. They make their money on other ways besides the fishing license and second pole permits.
Who? Who makes the money? You're combining multiple agencies. The UDWR sells you the license, which gives you the right to fish. If you go to a State Park, then you may have to pay them. Different agency. Gas money certainly doesn't go to the UDWR or the State. That's a private entity. I have that problem when I go to the movies as well -- I have to pay parking, I have to buy treats, etc. Should the UDWR be subsidizing your fishing trips by lowering your fishing license fee to help with your gas? No.
Would I stop fishing cause it went up $8? No but its pushing the limits. It's taking advantage of what they know they can do and get away with it
Like everything else, costs go up. This is life. Sure, it sucks. Is the DWR gouging us? I don't think so. I guess what it comes down to is priorities. Sometimes we have to give something up in order to continue doing something else. I gave up golf a couple years ago. For me, fishing is worth some extra cost. That might not be acceptable for everyone (higher fees) -- so a few may give up on fishing. i guess that could go back to your first issue; overcrowding.
