Gun safety courses
#10
I'm seeing two different issues here.

1. Your wife needs to take a basic firearms course of some sort.

2. A concealed carry course for yourself.

These are very different, though related, things. The suggestion of an NRA First Steps course for pistol, rifle, or shotgun would be really good for your wife. It'll teach her safe gun handling, teach her how to shoot, and get rid of some of the negative mistique that she has towards guns. I'm an NRA Certified instructor in Rifle, Shotgun, and Muzzleloading rifle but at this point I only do courses for scouts because of time constraints. The pistol course in Ogden sounds like it would be good.

For a concealed carry course, there are tons of them out there. I took mine from Chad (mumblemumble) at CAL Ranch in Spanish Fork a while ago. I can't remember his last name at the moment.

The reason I think your wife should do one of the First Steps courses is that she'll actually handle a gun and learn to shoot one type of gun. It teaches gun safety, basic shooting technique, and gun maintenance. When I took the Shotgun Instructor course and learned how to teach shotgun shooting, my own shooting improved immensely. The CFP class doesn't have any shooting or gun handling associated with it, but does teach basic safety. Good course, but not the best for your wife. Yet. When she starts asking things like "where's mine?" when you bring another gun home, then she'll be ready for the CFP class. [cool]
