It's already been a year since I started this thread.
I went out this morning at a new place, on the shore between Swan Falls and Marsing, and finally had good success. Thank you to everyone who gave me input here and in other discussions, especially idahoron.
Another thanks to cpierce and FemoralArchery for suggesting circle hooks in [url "http://www.bigfishtackle.com/forum/Idaho_Fishing_Forum_C22/Idaho_Fishing_General_F25/gforum.cgi?post=827254"]another thread[/url]. I used them for the first time today, and only missed connecting with one strike.
The water is really low, clear and warm. Idaho Power's site reported 4,660 cfs below Swan Falls this morning. There are gravel bars baking in the sun where sometimes it's too deep to wade during waterfowl season.
Family will be here in a few minutes for a meal of deep-fried catfish. I haven't been able to do that for years.
