KVD triple grip hooks (1X strong/2X short)! All I use. I replace the trebles on all of my cranks with 'em. Most cranks you can go up a size over oem using these since they have shorter shafts and won't get tangled together.
Your thinking is semi backwards. Going to braid for cranking you are going to loose more fish than you are going to catch.
Braid has zero stretch. Why that happened to that treble. You want stretch cranking otherwise what happened to you will happen or you will just rip the treble out of their mouths. More or less cranking with braid is like driving a car with solid shocks. Rough stuff! Add in a small hook/barb and it can easily be ripped out or bent up.
For FLP you will want to be using mono line. Since it isn't deep you will want mono over Fluorocarbon to control depth. You will get less depth with mono verse fluorocarbon. Lake Mead wise Fluorocarbon only for me except topwater and jerkbaits (I use the same rod for both applications).
If you are planning on being a cranking guy or really like to crank it might be time to get a technique specific rod! More than likely you are using a med fast or medhvy fast rod and that isn't great for cranking. You want a med or medhvy mod rod for cranking. Again just like line the mod action of a cranking specific rod will provide some shock resistance so when the fish jumps, etc you won't pull the hook out of him/her. Plus a mod rod slows down your reaction time to a bite and allows the fish a pinch more time to really get a hold of a crank.
