1.) I'm really interested to know how you knew the boat crowding you was from out of the area while it was floating. Did they still have the trailer strapped on the boat so you could look at the license plate under the water? Or did you just assume because they were rude they weren't local?
2.) C.J. is an hour's drive from the Boise area. That's a lot of gas to burn if the fishing stinks. I appreciate seeing fishing reports, good or bad. Asking people to PM you is fine, but they just clutter up the board with a bunch of posts with no information, and if someone is looking at the archives a year or two down the line to find patterns these posts are pretty much useless. People don't need fishing reports to know C.J. is a good bet in the spring once the weather warms up. They know crappie and perch go shallow in the spring and are relatively easy to find. They will come anyway. When summer gets here, the fish will go back out to deep water and become hard to find again.
3.) This I agree with. No one needs to take home 100s of perch or crappie. Just because you CAN doesn't mean you SHOULD. Who wants to clean that many fish anyway? That being said, many of the people complaining about other people keeping these fish have no clue about their biology. Panfish are prey species. They reproduce in vast numbers, and they start reproducing before they reach a size that interests anglers. Their populations are more dependent on how many young survive their first year than how many adults there are. Once a crappie or perch reaches the size most anglers are interested in, they are relatively safe from most predators except for maybe otters and birds. There are many lakes and reservoirs very similar in size/makeup to C.J. that are in more populated areas and receive much more fishing pressure but still kick out great fishing. C.J. is not in any danger of being fished out.
As far as the sudden influx of people ice fishing for perch, I'd be willing to bet more of those people came because the Statesman reported C.J. was frozen over and fishing was good. Maybe you'll want to write to them and complain too.
