Brand New To Fishing

Hey, I'm Nathan and I just began fishing a couple days ago and I am 15. I live in the Chicago Suburbs. Right now I'm just fishing in a small little creek that runs through a pond with my friends. I caught 1 fish, while my friend caught 12. I want to get good, but I've been using their poles, hooks, and bait so I feel like a mooch. What can I do to really familiarize myself with fishing? Also what am I going to need when it comes to fishing? I know I need poles/baits/bobbers/hooks ect., but can anyone recommend anything to me? I need all the help I can get!
