My first boat was a rubber blow up type that my wife and I Used for a few years. I upgraded to 14 foot gregor aluminum with a 5 hp brigs and stratton 4 stroke, I then up graded to a new 06 Tracker pro guide v16. I recently paid it off. For me it has been a great boat. I had a couple minor issues with bilge motor and fish finder on my first trip out. BPS fixed it and I have not had any problems in the last 6 years. It works for me and my family. I took it to Gerry's Marine in Henderson for a check up a year ago. He did some basic maintenance on my Mercy 50hp elpto . He told me as long as I do the maintenance the motor it will run forever. The only thing I would have done different is buy the bigger motor I could have gone up to a 75hp. Its top speed is about 27mph with 2 and gear. With 4 adults and gear is about 12 mph. Its big enough to handle most wind, winds that pop up( get me out of the area quickly without dying) It has all the bells and whistles. It just not a Cadillac version but for me and my family it works. I am spoiled with a boat, fishing is not the same off the shore. I would go as big as you can afford. I love Pontoon' but they are slow and don't do well if the winds pick up quick.
