I think one of the biggest problems in all of fishing. Is that people have a very skewed view on how many fish are present in a healthy lake. I think it is the source of a lot of resentment, debate, etc in fishing communities.
I hear all the time people talking about "too much fishing pressure", "too much harvest", "more people should practice catch and release", etc, etc. There are a lot of people who won't even tell their friends when they catch fish, because they are worried about word getting out...and everyone catching all of "their" fish.
I understand that some bodies of water (Usually very small bodies of water) are more affected by angling... but big bodies of water are very hard to affect in terms of angling. It has been said a million times on here, by logical and level headed people: That drought and water levels will always have an enormous impact on fish populations when compared to angling impact.
I think if more people realized how many walleye there were in Willard right now, they would have absolutely no reason to be concerned about people keeping 6 of them when they go. There are tons of walleye in that lake and after the spawn is over and the fish disperse away from the shorelines... it is tougher for people to successfully harvest a limit of walleye.
Just my thoughts. If more people knew just how many fish there were, they wouldn't be so upset that others are taking advantage of an excellent resource (that will not be ruined by harvest)
