I helped the DWR do gill netting last fall. Fall is the time of year that they normally do gill netting at Willard.
The results of the netting showed low numbers of younger Walleye. This is why the DWR has stated that this year may be better for Walleye that next year may be.

If this stays true and next year the Walleye numbers are lower, I'm sure there will be people blaming the opening of the channel for the lower numbers, even though the DWR already knows it won't be the reason.

So if you like Walleye fishing, this should be a great year for you at Willard Bay.
