the reality of spawn fishing is kind of separated into three sections. pre spawn spawn and post spawn. if your fishing browns during the "spawn" then they are quite difficult to catch. and for the sake of the fish hard on them too while they are spawning. now for the prespawn it is excellent fishing since they stage up in large holes above or below there spawn runs. they feed aggresively before the spawn since they dont feed much during that period. the post spawn is tricky. since right after they spawn the fish are in limbo and trying to recuperate. so you have about a week of post spawn fishing where it is unbelievable aggresive strikes. after that they generally move into there winter quaters and feed as they do during cold months. winter quarters are small and few between on the provo, a theory of mine but i wont get into it, hence the white fungus on the fish. as for fishing the browns on the beds, streamers or anythign fairly large work well. you have to bring it across or infront of their bed and they will chase it off nipping at it. this is a great time to catch or hook the biggest fish in that stretch of river. but they dont really strike. you have probably missed the prespawn on the river. so you should be able to get some inbetween feedings during their spawn. look for deep holes above and below long runs and riffles that have beds in them. fish the deep holes right on bottom, thats where the big brownies go when they are not on their beds.
