I wish my pontoon had the factory shelf in the back like the picture you posted. Looks like a great sturdy shelf for your battery. I bought a sportsman's 9 foot pontoon that didn't come with one and I had to use a 2x6 to hold up the battery.
You will love having a trolling motor. for fly fishing I troll a sinking line with streamers and cover a lot of water. I trick a lot of fish doing this in stillwaters such as henry's, chesterfield, and others here in south east Idaho. Like FG pointed out, the battery life is great and I also adapted a fish finder to boot. my transducer is mounted to the bottom of the trolling motor.
the lake waters I fish I don't even bother using the oars....i let the trolling motor pull me around and if the battery is weak, I kick troll back to the dock.
for still water it is a great time....
