Backpacking or hiking rod and reel combo's?
#8
if you are talking abouit those short stainless steel rods, I have seen them, and I know a couple guys that have them,

For the most part they just sit in thier ice fishing buckets. Ocationaly they will pull them and use them for set lines.

The problem with the steel rods and handles is, it get COLD!. So unless you would like to bring on early arthritus in your hands, there are 3 seasons in areas like yours and mine where they would be uncomfortable to use.

They do have some weight to them as well, so if you are counting ounces when stacking your pack you may want to concider that factor as well.

otherwise they are sturdy, handle nice, reels are not to shabby. and aside from being a lightning rod "for wormer climates or mid summer" I would give them **** out of 5
