I participated in my first tournament last year at Chesterfield and we had a blast ( it helped that I won 3rd place). We would have been fishing down there anyway and thought we might as well do the tournament while we were there. I think a lot of people who participate in these tournaments would be fishing anyway, they may save up their kitchen pass in order to go during the tournament but they would be fishing Chesterfield with or without the tournament maybe just on a different weekend. I don't think the tournaments bring in a bunch of people who only fish the tournaments. The tournament adds an additional bit of excitement when you get a bite knowing that the fish on the end of your line could be worth hundreds of dollars. I am not sure if I will participate in this tournament because of the 1 pole rule, I am used to having my five poles and it seems that there is always one or two poles that get all the action, what if the one pole I choose is the dud that day [:/]. However I would change my mind if I knew that all of the entry money was going towards prizes or to be donated to some kind of charity, I don't think anybody should be making a dime from a tournament. I know it is a lot of work organizing and obtaining prizes and permits, however it should be a non profit endeavor. IMO
