While I regret posting anything about Damon other than a Thank You. I stand by my earlier comments. As for my reply to FGs post. I need to and should learn to add to the thread neutrally rather than hit reply to last post. Clearly if you read the entire thread you can see why I would post a picture of a trophy taken through the ice this year. Cant understand why its such a big deal to post a gorgeous fish pic that was sent to me.
If anyone anywhere wants to post and unmodified picture of me with a fish to this site. Please feel free. Ill make sure I track down the guy in the pic and apologize but I'm sure he isn't going to care but I will anyways.
Identifying any fish as a 100% pure cutthroat is impossible without laboratory data. When I was at the Hatchery I was told that even the Yellowstone cutts in Henry's were probably exposed to Rainbow DNA at sometime in the past. I don't KNOW when or how or why they think this but it was clear that they do not know for sure if the strain in the lake is truly 100% pure. At least as of three years ago. Unless they lied or just don't know what they are talking about. Right?
Bill Schiess Probably knows more than any one individual about Fly Fishing Henrys Lake and his opinions are certainly valuable. Nevertheless I still believe that IDFGs scientific data holds more weight than the opinion of an expert like Bill.
This issue isn't going to go away. Some people will never be comfortable with an open ice season on the lake and they have the right to express their opinions. IF IDFG LETS OPINION DICTATE POLICY RATHER THAN SCIENTIFIC DATA WE ARE ALL IN TROUBLE. Let science tell us all how to make the lake the best it can be for all kinds of anglers. If you think IDFGs methods are flawed then get involved and push for your idea of sound Science. I'm not an expert by any means and I make mistakes in judgement like any human being. I will however, ALWAYS push for policy based on DATA and not opinions. No matter the issue.
Debates like this can be productive but if we continue to personally attack one another they turn into meaningless web chatter. I apologize for my earlier comment. You might not be the the 10 beers deep guy I always see out there.
