Anglers were checked more frequently in 2011 than 2012 because we were doing a creel survey. This is a study where we collect information on angler effort, catch and harvest. Results from that survey showed the new season extension had no impact on either fish size or fish numbers. We didn't need to repeat that effort in 2012, but both enforcement staff and fisheries staff were present during the ice fishery. Effort appeared to be down during the 2012 ice fishing season, and catch rates also appeared lower than 2011.
