the second greatest cause of line break is wind knots in your line.. yes this dose happen, usualy when traveling from the car to the hole and it dose happen when your not paying attention on the ice as well.
With the thin 2 lb line we use visual may not be enough, run your fingers down the last 3 feet of line, most wind knots acure there.
