I would actually love to get into rod building... You said 6pm right? Not 6am? 
. I wouldn't mind having a different get together to cover just rod building. Maybe go over the tools needed so people like myself could get ideas for Xmas presents. Just a thought! This definitely doesn't need to be the only meet of the year. We just need to find more places to meet up. Which can also be discussed at the 9th get together. I'd think keep it simple. Winter flies, I know I struggle horribly at finding a variety of good flies to tie. Would love to thumb throw catalogs and books and take pictures for ideas.
